When you feature your friends’ blogs, you will help increase (hopefully) their page rank and yours. You can read more on this here and here. So keep the ball rolling, make your own 5 featured friends. To return the favor, make sure you include the name of the person who recommended you. Example:

LENT

Lent: What is it? Why is it?

The highlight of the year for Christians is Easter, the day when our Lord rose from the dead. Lent is a forty-day season of preparation for Easter. Lent always begins on a Wednesday, called Ash Wednesday.

Why 40 days? Because, Jesus fasted and was tempted in the wilderness for 40 days. Lent, then, is our time of fasting, prayer, temptation and repentance. Lent is not required anywhere in scriptures, but it has been a custom, which Christians have practiced for most of the last two thousand years.

In many languages, the word "Lent" actually means "fast." This is where the custom of giving up something for Lent originated.

However, just to confuse things, Lent is actually 46 days rather than 40 days. Why? Because the 40 days of Lent are supposed to be days of fasting, which means days of discipline and self-restraint. But Sunday, the Lord's Day, should never be a day of fasting, but a day of celebration! So each Sunday we suspend our Lenten disciplines and celebrate. Lent is 40 "fasting" days spread out over a total of 46 days beginning on Ash Wednesday.

The focus of Lent was always threefold:
#1 It was a time to prepare new converts for baptism through intensive classes and instruction.
#2 It was a time for long-standing Christians to review their lives and renew their commitment to Jesus Christ.
#3 It was a time for backsliders to be restored to the faith.

In every case, it is a time for serious, disciplined self-examination, a time spent in intensive prayer and repentance before the cross of Calvary.

To represent the dark and serious business of Lent, one custom has been to strip the sanctuary of all flowers, candles, and colors during Lent. This custom helps us to turn inward and examine ourselves, even as it reminds us of the dark and colorless Sabbath day when Jesus lay dead in the tomb.

Put simply, Lent is a time to examine ourselves carefully. Here are some questions upon which you might pray and meditate during Lent:

Q1: Am I sharing gladly what I have with others, especially the stranger and the poor?

Q2: Do I have a gracious and patient attitude with others, especially those who irritate me?

Q3: Do I feel the power of connection to God and the church in corporate worship?

Q4: How is my devotional and prayer life progressing? Am I listening to God more and complaining less? Is it time for a change or a growth in my Bible study and prayer life?

Q5: What are the lurking sin problems, which still plague me?

Q6: Am I as thoughtful and forgiving of family as others, or do I take my frustrations out on them?

Q7: Do I speak up for the maligned and oppressed, or do I remain silent in order to remain popular?

Way to Tinago Falls

Attached video was taken last February 25, 2008 on our way down to Tinago Falls when my boyfriend visited here in Philippines...Hope you will enjoy...

The Tinago Falls is one of the main tourist attractions in Iligan, a city known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls. Tinago is a Filipino word meaning "hidden", the falls being hidden in a deep ravine. Trekking to the falls requires approximately 500 descending steps called the winding staircase. It is said that Tinago Falls is a sanctuary for weary souls seeking to commune with nature. The trip to the falls actually exposes you to a variety of wildlife. Today, the trail is refurbished into a wildlife park hosting different species of wild animals.
The falls is approximately 240-feet high, its very cold waters cascading beautifully into a deep and calm basin-like pool which appears like a blue-colored lagoon. Under the falls is a small cave where people can enter and listen to the rumbling waters. The foot of the falls is a very ideal place for swimming. The place also has man-made swimming pools for children. It is truly a majestic place that resounds an atmosphere of serenity, a perfect escape from the noisy metropolitan.

History of my birth place (ILIGAN CITY)

Iligan City History...
Pedro Manook, a protégé of Legaspi, with his men from the already Christianized Dapitan in Zamboanga, intended to seize the settlement. Manook and his men were remarkable fighters and in no time subdued the settlement. Those who refused subjugation, especially the Maranaos, took to the hills. This marked the establishment of the first Christian settlement in the fabled land of the Maranaos, with the “iligan” or “ilihan” as the springboard of the initials efforts to Christianize Lanao. The year suggested was 1557 or 1609, reckoning from the year the Recollects, the first of the Missionaries that came, were assigned to Iligan. The Jesuits followed in 1939.After the demise of Manook, his son-in-law Gonzalo Maglinte and grandson Pedro Cabilin, whose mother was supposed to be the legendary Maria Uray, carried on with his zeal and courage. Their tenacity withstood the onslaught of the Muslim natives to regain the lost settlement. Iligan in the ear became the staging points of the long and futile efforts of the Spanish Commander Francisco de Atienza and Fray A. Agustin de San Pedro of the “El Padre Capitan” to Christianize and colonize Lanao. The futility of their efforts and the abandonment of Dansalan as a Spanish fort strengthened the position of Iligan as a Christian bastion which accounts for its pre-dominantly Christian population up to the present. After the defeat of the Spaniards in the hands of the Americans, a certain Captain Smith came to Iligan in 1900 with a flotilla of war ships to assert American might and authority. The coming of the Americans ushered in the era of closer Christian–Muslim relationships under an atmosphere of tolerance and co-existence. It calmed resistance to duly constituted authorities as well as hostilities among Filipino brothers whom at the time were divided by different ideological and religious persuasions in the area. Westernization started to be felt. The Japanese forces occupied Iligan on May 25, 1942 until October 4, 1944 when they finally moved out in the wake of the advancing liberation forces. All through these years the “iligan” was not only the humble coastal trading settlement, the “ilihan” that was the safeplace from marauders, the springboard of the initial efforts to Christianize and colonize Lanao, the home of the Christian-Maranao and multi-ethnical prototype with its own breed of brave and outstanding sons and daughters, but the gateway to the fabled land of the Maranaos.

Beauty

A thing of beauty is a joy forever;
Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness.

The beautifull are never desolate,
Someone always loves them.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Beauty is what delights the human soul,
literally capturing it and whirling it into a consuming
ecstacy, producing refined pleasurable feeling!

Beauty of nature and beauty of art are different. Nature
is silent, while art is expressive.

MY LOVE

Love is like quicksilver in the hand. Leave the fingers open and it stays. Clutch it, and it darts away."
"Love is friendship set on fire."
"Love is an ideal thing, marriage a real thing."
"To be in love is merely to be in a state of perceptual anesthesia."
"Love is everything it's cracked up to be.That's why people are so cynical about it...It really is worth fighting for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything, you risk even more."
"Sometimes love is stronger than a man's convictions."
"Love is the master key that opens the gates of happiness."
"Maybe love is like luck. You have to go all the way to find it."
"Love is like war: Easy to begin but hard to end."
"Love consists in this, that two solitudes protect and touch and greet each other."
"Where love is, no room is too small."
"Love is the irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired."
"To love is to receive a glimpse of heaven."
"A love song is just a caress set to music."
"Love is an act of endless forgiveness, a tender look which becomes a habit."
"Love is like a violin. The music may stop now and then, but the strings remain forever."
"In the final analysis, love is the only reflection of man's worth."
"To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer. To suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy then is to suffer. But suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy one must love,or love to suffer,or suffer from too much happiness. I hope you're getting this down."
